Epocrates building EHR for small practices
Has this been reported before, or have I just not been paying close enough attention?
Yesterday at the Mobile Health Expo in New York, Sean Handel, vice president of subscriber business at Epocrates, said that the San Mateo, Calif.-based company known for its mobile medical reference tools, is building an EHR for small physician practices. “A significant portion of that product will be a patient portal,” Handel said.
Handel also said to expect to see more integration of mobile apps into clinical systems as more people shift to tablets from traditional PCs. That’s no surprise. We have so little integration now that it really can only go up.
While I’m being slightly cynical, I leave you with this thought from Google’s Dr. Roni Zeiger:

They were touting it at HIMSS 2010

See how out of it I’ve been? I guess this means it’s ready for market, or nearly ready.
I am wondering how difficult these unpublished meaningful use rules and flexible deadlines make it for EHRs in development.
This was supposedly going to see the light of day late last year — can you imagine trying to develop to standards that change as they are drafted?
Neil,
It was announced at HIMSS 2010: http://www.emrandehr.com/2010/03/14/matthew-holts-impressions-from-himss/ They are in beta with users now. They were going to come out with it big at an event this spring, but then it got delayed. So, I think AAFP is when Epocrates is really going to make their big announcement about their EHR.
Thanks, John, for either keeping me honest or pointing out my laziness for not looking that up. :)
AAFP would be an ideal venue.
Yes, it does make sense to come out at AAFP. I’ve thought about going there, but don’t want to travel to Orlando for it.
