At the very least, expect Muntz to be acting national coodinator
I don’t have any inside knowledge about whom the White House might be considering to replace Dr. Farzad Mostashari when he steps down from his post as national health IT coordinator on Oct. 5, but I get the sense Principal Deputy National Coordinator David Muntz will at least be acting head of the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology. What makes me think this?
Here is the lineup for tomorrow’s press conference at the U.S. Capitol marking National Health IT Week:
- Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.)
- Rep. Mike Honda (D-Calif.)
- ONC Principal Deputy National Coordinator David Muntz
- Former Wyoming Gov. Jim Geringer
- Incoming Director of the Department of Health for the District of Columbia Dr. Joxel Garcia
Mostashari isn’t speaking. Muntz is. The transition is underway.
By the way, I had a chance to interview Mostashari yesterday. Stay tuned for details.
I hope for once you asked some of the real questions instead of soft balling him? (I hope this isn’t rude but the 4th estate needs to stand up to the power of govt as it is slowly being over-taken by the private sector – which is where Farzad most of us think he is headed – or something like WEst Foundation in CA)
Did you ask Farzad if the whole Blue Button campaign really just a slick marketing campaign to try and cover up for the failed HIE program? What benefit have providers seen from the 100’s or millions spent on Beacons has had?
Is he is concerned about the drop off in Doc’s being able to meet MU stage 1 for a full year and how they are going to meet MU2 VDT if most don’t have portals?
You are a great voice but no one seems to challenge the 30billion being spent on this and how only a few companies (Epic, Cerner, etc) are benefiting.
