A question for vendors
I know it’s a big deal to be named to the “Best In KLAS” list by KLAS Research, but does it really do any good for everyone on the list, which ranks an astounding 113 market segments, to send out a press release touting that? Put yourself in my shoes. How would you like to receive dozens of e-mails about the same report? Just curious.
Having spent most of my career working with HIT vendors, I can tell you that some work very hard to get high grades from KLAS, knowing that it can be short lived glory. Smart competitors and potential customers can still dig through the detailed comments for specific pros and cons. To answer your question, Neil, my view is that being #1 in KLAS is only an indicator and only really interesting if that position is held over a number of years. A 5-10 year history by vendor would be more indicative of that vendor's likelihood of delivering solid products and services. I've always thought it could be interesting to track KLAS ratings over time relative to mergers, acquisitions, changes in management, introduction of new products or releases, etc. I don't think most executives appreciate how quickly KLAS ratings can change.
Liddy,You highlight the main problem with KLAS ratings. The fact that just by an EMR vendor putting more effort into the KLAS ratings they can influence the rating says all you need to hear about the value of the rating.Point being that if the ratings can be influenced based upon the vendor's focus on the ratings, something is amiss!
