EMR failures and uninstalls
Before I forget, I had the cover story in the May issue of MD Net Guide, on the subject of EMR failures and uninstalls in physician practices.
In a similar vein, Healthcare IT News last week had a story about a high number of EMR uninstalls in the Phoenix area.

It's interesting how I read on some forums the criticism, "why would you go with an integrator/reseller, when you can go with the manufacturer direct?" This is a huge selling point for us – we have a 100% success rate so far with practices in 20 specialties covering 35 states. We sell a #1 Best in KLAS system – but our implementation and training is what makes or breaks the success of the installation… not the software. We look at the practice holistically… from its marketing and collection efforts, to the staff culture and workflow. It's about looking at the big picture and truly partnering with the practice to ensure their success.
Nice article. I am not surprised by the high percentage of failure. EMR or otherwise (even a simple HR system), implementation success in IT shops at providers is disappointing. There is a serious need for an injection of qualified IT professionals in the provider vertical. Until that happens, failures will continue to happen.
