What word describes an informatics professional? I’ve used “informaticist” for several years, but lately I’ve been hearing “informatician” a lot. Which do you prefer? Is there a distinction? Perhaps it’s time for a definitive definition.

I would love to add something ingenious to the Oxford English Dictionary, but the term I prefer is simply Knowledge Manager. “Information” sounds disposable. “Knowledge” sounds more tangible.
Informaticist is the standard I’ve always heard used, although I too feel it lacks the desired “oomph”. Informatician sounds worse to me though…too close to magician.
I can barely pronounce “informaticist” — it doesn’t roll of the tongue well for me. But that’s just me.I prefer the plain and simple “guru of everything.”
